Original handmade etching on copper plate with aquatint, in Prussian blue ink on Hanemuhle paper. Hand-gilded. 24cm X 27cm unframed.
This piece is part of the 'Wild Icons' series of etchings, featuring endangered animals from Brazil. The Spix macaw has been declared extinct in the wild. Its numbers were decimated by illegal wildlife trafficking and habitat loss due to deforestation. The species survives due to captive breeding programmes. Recent efforts to re-introduce it to its habitat have had some success, but it now faces new challenges as its habitat has become much more arid due to climate change.
10% of all proceeds will be donated to the World Wildlife Fund to support their conservation work in the Amazon.
