About
Laura Villares House

I am an Anglo-Brazilian artist, and my work is inspired by the beauty and diversity of nature. I use a range of traditional techniques and materials such as etching, gouache and gilding to explore questions of value, sustainability, spirituality and our relationship with the more-than-human world.

For my recent series of round paintings and etchings featuring endangered animals, I borrowed influences from traditional icon painting and sacred geometry to inform my compositions. Due to gilding and the highly reflective surface of precious metals, I invite the viewer to observe how their shadow and movement affect the piece, and ultimately to see themselves as part of the work.

I have studied and developed my skills in fine art at the Royal Drawing School and at the King's School of Traditional Arts. I work mainly from my bright blue garden studio, or from the print room at the RDS.

I am a qualified teacher and experienced educator, with experience in facilitating joyful and creative art workshops for adults, children and families.
