Original, unique painting. This piece shows 4 species of British dragonfly (Southern Hawker, Golden Ringed, Common Hawker and Brilliant Emerald, and 8 species of UK butterfly and the respective plants their caterpillars rely on. 4 are common (Peacock, Orange Tip, Common Blue and Red Admiral) - but half of Britain's butterfly species are threatened or endangered, so the others features are the Large Copper (now extinct in Britain), Large Blue, High Brown Fritillary, and the Duke of Burgundy. Due to the gilding, the piece is reflective and invites the viewer to see themselves as part of this ecosystem.
Hand-painted with gouache and gilding on circular birchwood panel, 30cm in diameter. D hooks and picture string at the back for hanging.
